Landscape Astrophotography
My interest in landscape astrophotography was kindled many years back when I emerged from my tent on the south coast in the early hours in preparation for a sunrise photographic shoot and was blown away by the sight of what I now now is the Cygnus region of our Milky Way directly overhead. Thinking this sort of photography was beyond me it wasn't until a couple of years ago that I set about trying to capture it's partial or full panoramic arch. This sort of photography is different but not that difficult however the planning and conditions can be. A full Milky Way panoramic image is relatively rare to capture in the uk due to many factors including but not limited to, finding a suitable unobstructed location & viewpoint, finding unpolluted night skies (Bortle 4 or better), time of year (the interesting core is not above the horizon for many months of the year and as the year goes on the arch rises higher until it is almost vertical making a panoramic shot very difficult), moonless nights are a must, equipment failures or use of (operating camera gear in the pitch black is far more challenging than daylight) and lastly weather conditions (cloud, rain, seeing, wind) all of which can ruin a shoot. So below are a few of my images when everything came together and I would recommend that everybody makes the effort to seek out one of our few remaining dark sky sites and experiences the Milky Way in all it's glory for themselves. Any comments or questions don't hesitate to get in touch.................Enjoy!
