Bird photography is such a broad subject I struggled with how to categorise my galleries but decided the best way was by the main habitats we see here in the UK. Many of our species overlap between habitats so if you don't find what you are expecting in one gallery it may well be in another. As with most forms of wildlife & landscape photography good light or absence of it will either make or break an image. Other factors I find to be key are reach, a lot of birds are tiny and flighty so buy the longest telephoto or zoom lens you can afford, it will also help you capture more natural behaviour is you are far enough away not to cause it alarm or stress. Another key factor is try and show the bird from it's world, that can mean lying flat on the ground but if you can photograph the bird at it's eye level that will make for a much more interesting image. Lastly although we are all guilty at times of trying to fill the frame with as much of the subject as possible it can be more interesting to show the bird within some of it's environment.
